What Will You be Playing Next Week?

Well people, the hype is alive and well in my circles.  It seems all of my friends will have Titanfall the minute it releases.  I expect to see plenty of Titans falling on Tuesday, but for the people  not into that what will you be playing next week?  I know that Dark Souls 2 will also be releasing on the same day.  I’ve been looking at the new Plants vs. Zombies.  Might give that a shot this weekend.  I also read that Call of Duty: Ghosts’ multiplayer will be free this weekend for Xbox One & 360.  No harm in finally giving that game a try.

As for weRgamerz updates:

Expect a couple of uploads this weekend.  As I’ve stated before, I have switched to more of a once a month kind of thing.  I don’t know how many videos will be released at once, but I let them all go at one time, and run away for the rest of the month.

If Titanfall Don’t Make Your Boat Float

There’s is not escaping the Titanfall shadow folks.  People are REALLY excited about this game, but for the people who aren’t getting it do not worry!  Here a few other games coming out between now and the end of March.

Titanfall commentary/gameplay

Of course, there are other games coming out over the next several months (Destiny beta being at the top of my list), but I’ll let you Google them on your own time.  If I’m in the mood to break my console, I’ll pick up Dark Souls 2 for sure.  I also own BF4.  Maybe I’ll give that game another run.

Titans WILL be falling next month though.

Nintendo: Mario Kart this Summer, Mobile App, and More

+ this one

It’s no secret that Nintendo wishes they were doing waaayyyyyy a little better right now. We all have heard about the pay cuts due to those other guys selling more in two months weak Wii U sales. The general public has pretty much written the Wii U off, but a lot of news is dropping from their press conference today that might put a smile on the faces of the 5+ million Wii U customers they do have.

Mario Kart is coming this summer (May?)! I still love this game to death and it’s pretty much an auto buy for me. They shared plans for a new “Nintendo app”. Not sure what this really means, but I assume it will attempt what’s already available from Microsoft and Sony. They also mentioned licensing out their characters to 3rd parties. Not 100% sure what this really means, but I saw random comments hoping for something along the lines of the Kingdom Hearts series. We can hope…

I am a huge fan of the Wii U. I like the system and what it offers, but I don’t see it lasting much longer. I keep trying to think of some type of magic plan to make it a “must have”, but even with the new Mario game out (which is an amazing game) they couldn’t convince consumers.

Oh well….I’ll will still be enjoying Mario Kart this summer.

A Change in Scope

Intro-2b (1)

It’s been a fun but bumpy road for the weRgamerz crew.  When DC and I came together to start this DC wasn’t working full time, and I wasn’t a father.  Fast forward to now and well….everything changed.  Time is a precious thing.  It’s funny how today I can share a blog post with (potentially) millions in a matter of seconds, but still can’t find the time to write it.  I had big dreams for where this brand was going.  I still believe we can get there, but I can’t do it alone…at least not in it’s current state.

I don’t want to get into the business of over promising and under delivering.  That just isn’t my thing.  I’ve tried to fix things by adding another blogger, but we all suffer from “noTIMEatALL” problems.  So, I’ve decided to re-visit the scope of weRgamerz.  I don’t want to quit entirely because it’s fun sharing these stories with you.  It’s fun doing the commentaries and sharing my gameplay.  The love (and hate) messages I receive on YouTube were sometimes the highlight of my day!

I (Wes) will start back making posts on YouTube via a NEW weRgamerz channel.  Our current channel has some weird issues that we tried to work out with Google/YouTube, but we don’t have enough subscribers for them to care.  I know this pretty much means I have to start ALL OVER AGAIN, but maybe that’s a good thing.  It will give me a fresh start in a way as the content will be a little different.  I will post a mix of Xbox One and Wii U footage…let me explain before you give me the “F Wii U” talk.  I will NOT be posting Super Mario or Zelda lets plays.  I will not torture you like that.  The Wii U footage will most likely end up being funny intros or outros…..though an occasional rage sessions might be shown for your entertainment.  My posts will not be weekly like I attempted in the past.  I will probably only post 1-2 times a month.  This has a lot to do with lack of time, but I believe this will also make the commentaries a little more interesting.  I will have more to talk about in a short period of time.  Also notice I said Xbox One above.  I currently plan on holding off until Titanfall is out.  If BF4 was such a technically terrible game maybe I would’ve have made the jump sooner.  In the meantime, I might post some of my BF4 matches from the Xbox 360 jus to have SOMETHING up.

I will still posts random gaming news that I find interesting.  We still don’t have any plans of becoming a news source for you.  We will start to become a hub for YouTube gaming videos and commentaries.  This will not just be my content.  I will be featuring other channels.  One in particular will be my IGZ family (check us out!).  There will be plenty of others also.  I will try my best to pick low profile channels with high quality content.  I will also start back doing my “Gamerz Talk” audio blogs and loading them here.  This will be once a month.

Thank YOU

To anyone who takes the time to read a post, or watch even a minute of a video…thank you.  You don’t have to share your time with us, and trust me we have a HUGE respect for your time.  I hope you all will continue to run with us in our new form.  At the end of the day, weRgamerz is passion rather than a job.  A hobby I love.  I don’t really care if it takes off and becomes a viable business.  I just want it to be fun (which it is!).

The Wii U: The Perfect Second Console

I picked up a Wii U close to it’s release date.  I wanted…no NEEDED Monster Hunter in my life.  I also picked up Super Mario Bros U just because….well because.  For about a month or two my Wii U got some heavy play time.  I loved it, and was very happy with my purchase, but that wore out soon after.  As usual, Monster Hunter didn’t get strong support in the US, and even thought Mario Bros U was (and is) a great game, it’s still Mario.  I got bored, and didn’t have any other games to turn to.  So, I boxed up that sucker and jumped back into the world of Xbox via my 360.  Now I know what some of you are thinking.  “The Wii U doesn’t have any games (at that time anyway) so of course you stopped playing it.  It sucks!!!”  Was I right?  Is this what some of you were thinking?  If so you aren’t getting it yet.  Let me finish my story….

I suck at this game and rage often

I play Xbox 360 (and games in general) for two reasons.  To hang out with some of my friends, and I love games.  Pretty much all of my buddies own the Xbox 360, so that was my console of choice.  Halo changed our lives back in the day…anyway.  We generally buy the same games so we can run together.  We all enjoy shooters so…well we play a lot of shooters.  First person is usually our go to, but we do manage to get into some third person games as well.  I used to really be into Ghost Recon.  I believe that Black Ops 2 and Battlefield 3 where the shooters of choice back when the Wii U was just coming out.  We played more BF3 than anything, and I was pretty good at it.  The homies and I would meet up every Friday and Saturday night and play session after session.  Good times indeed.  While this was going on, other games were coming out.  The Wii U especially was starting to pick up some steam on the software side.  This was a good thing since the first few months after launch were awfully dry.  Still, even with just the two games I owned I still managed to get time in to rage play some Mario.  It was a nice break from the usual FPS fest….

The next generation is coming up quick!  It’s now September, and if you aren’t excited about PS4/Xbox One, you are probably jumping up and down for BF4, GTA V, COD: Ghosts, and etc…etc.  I was very excited for the potential that was Grand Theft Auto Online.  I knew this game was going to be it.  At the same time, I was growing increasingly tired of my usual gaming lineup.  Shooter, Shooter, Sports, Shooter.  I was becoming exhausted with the overcrowded genres and was looking for something else to get into and it wasn’t just me.  The crew I ran with on BF3 went from 10 people every night to 4 or 5 on a good night to just me and DC.  We were all facing genre fatigue.  What made it worse is I still wanted to play games!  I would search online and at Gamestop hoping to find something that would grab my attention, but didn’t have much luck at first.  I looked over the Xbox 360’s massive lineup and couldn’t find one game of interest that I hadn’t already played during other times of genre fatigue.  The PlayStation 3 wasn’t looking any better.  Oh well, guess I’ll just keep playing Batttlefield…or at least I thought I’d be able to keep playing.  BF4 turned out to be a technical cow turd.  The game was just awful.  Shit just didn’t work.  My rage meter was threw the roof. I considered just going ahead and making the jump to Xbox One.  I wanted the system just for the upgrades alone.  I even got as far as packing up my Xbox 360 with the full intention of selling it off to the highest buyer.  I was just ready to move on man!  Mind you it’s  holiday season by this time, and every year I take a look at the things I have and sell off unused gadgets on Ebay.  It’s kinda my thing.  So while I was scavenging the house looking for sellable goods I come across my dusty Wii U.  I forgot I even owned this thing….

The savior of my gaming sanity

The savior of my gaming sanity

It’s been a good while since I gave Nintendo’s console a good run.  I don’t even know what games are out.  Lets take a quick look on the infonet…..woah!  Super Mario 3D is being called one of the best Mario games EVER??  They re-made the one version of Zelda I never got to play?  Looks like I found the break I’ve been looking for! It was a hard decision, but I choose Zelda over Mario.  Mainly due to the fact I’m cheap $10 difference in price.  When I finally managed to get some time to play this game I was almost instantly revitalized.  The mix of new game and childhood nostalgia was strong in this one.  This feeling is the reason I will never review a Wii U game just because the thing would be so overwhelming bias positive that it’s just pointless.  That’s when I realized why the Wii U was such a great purchase.  Sad that it took a WHOLE YEAR to figure it out, but what can you do?

Not every person in the world will have this problem.  Some people pop in a disc, play for an hour, and are completely satisfied.  Some peeps just love certain genres and games and don’t care to mix it up or venture out.  Nothing wrong with any of that, but that’s just not me.  I need a healthy mix.  No one genre can keep me forever and if your are anything like me having a Wii U under your preferred gaming box is highly recommended.  None of the other consoles have or will have anything remotely close to what is available on the Wii U.  The console and it’s games just give off a whole different kind of vibe entirely, and it’s a nice break from what I consider “the norm” in console gaming.  I don’t think the Wii U has the power to stand on it’s own.  At least not for a large part of the market, though I can see how some people would be completely satisfied just owning it exclusively.  I will say this though:  Having a Xbox One/PS4 + a Wii U is a million times better than keeping your PS3/Xbox 360.

Happy Holidays! How’s Next Gen Treating You?

My son’s face while I sing to him lol

November has come and gone.  The next generation of console gaming is HERE!!!!  How are you enjoying it so far?  I haven’t been able to spend much time enjoying the pleasures of Xbox ons due to me currently enjoying the many pleasures of parenthood.  My first child is now four months old, and between him, my wife, work, school, and personal hobbies I haven’t been able to commit the kind of time I’ve wanted to commit to weRgamerz.  Rest assure that we are still around.  I have a commentary going up tomorrow night in fact, but that is neither here nor there…I want to know about your new consoles!

I have neither the PS4 or Xbox One currently.  I have had the opportunity to play both extensively though.  I will save my opinions on the two for my upcoming commentaries, but I am curious on how some of you feel about them currently.  Was it worth it?  Are you having fun with your new PS4/Xbox One?  What has been your favorite launch title so far?  Just tell me EVERYTHING!!!  I decided to hold off on picking up either system this year.  Neither had a game that I wanted to play right away.  I have managed to dust off my Wii U recently.  Super Mario 3D World is one of the best games I’ve had the pleasure of playing in a loooonng time.  I will also be picking up the Windmaker, Wonderful 101, and Pikmin 3 over the next couple of months.  These should hold me over until Titanfall and Destiny come out next year.

Let me know how great your new console is!

Happy Holidays!!!

Don’t Go Nintendo!

Yes…I am one of the few Wii U owners out there in the wild.  I bought it just for Monster Hunter, but since I did drop a few dollars on it I was looking forward to a big E3 showing.  You can imagine my initial heart break when I checked Joystiq and discovered that they will not be part of the big 3 this year.  To their defense, Nintendo did state that they will be doing a few closed door presentations, but considering that I will not be in the room…so what?

Before I rant explain, let me give you a little background info…..

I love em both

I (Wes) am actually a Sega man.  The first game I ever played was Sonic 1.  My gaming life started on the Sega Genesis, but I still had love for Super Mario.  I played games on the SNES at my neighbors house every other day.  We would alternate between Genesis at my house and SNES at his.  The good ole days…..  I never owned a Nintendo product until the N64, and the only reason I got it was due to the fact that even though the Sega Dreamcast (in my opinion) was the best console ever made, it was failing hard not doing so good.  I had to jump ship or be stuck playing Shenmue for the 20th time (not a bad thing actually).  I was able to pick up both a N64 and a Playstation at a yard sale for $50 bucks(ballin!).  My N64 came with two essential games, Mario Kart and Smash Brothers…need I say more.

Did I waste my money?

Did I waste my money?

Nintendo not having a big booth at this event just sucks.  There isn’t any other way to put it.  I mean…it’s Nintendo man!  Even if you don’t own their products you still watched the presentation.  Now I will be the first one to tell you that I just play video games.  When it comes to video game news, I am very uninformed.  So being the very uninformed gamer that I am, I’m assuming that Nintendo doesn’t have anything worth showing this year.  This isn’t good.  This is only confirming everything that was said about the Wii U before it came out, it will not be able to compete in the next gen.  If Nintendo has nothing to show this year what will be so different about the next?  The only thing that comes to mind are their first party offerings,  but in this day and age Mario and Zelda aren’t enough to gain new sales.  People who want those games probably already have a Wii U.  They seem to be bleeding third party support daily.  It just doesn’t look good.

Not all is lost though.  Nintendo does have the best first party line up of all systems, and they have plenty of money stashed away for security, so I wouldn’t put them in the same place as Sega.  Still, there’s something that just doesn’t feel right.  No third party support, the same (but awesome) line up of first party titles, the resale of games you’ve probably played a million times, and a recent move to start pushing smartphone games(really).  Nintendo has been in the game (haha!..game) for a looooong time.  So I can only assume that they know what they are doing, but to the average (uniformed) gamer like myself the Wii U isn’t looking like a solid investment.
